Written by guitarist Frankie Sullivan and keyboard player and guitarist Jim Peterik, "I Can't Hold Back" was the first hit single from the Chicago rockers' 1984 album Vital Signs (which was their first album with vocalist Jimi Jamison) and peaked at Number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart at the time of its release in December 1984. The AOR favorite also topped the Billboard Top Rock Tracks chart for three weeks.
