Embracing fate, chance and the unknown are some of the main themes fuelling "Where the River Goes," a grungey rock epic from Stone Temple Pilots. The deeply evocative song depicts a wandering protagonist on an existential quest for fulfilment and is tinged with sadness as much as hope. "I wanna be as big as a mountain / I wanna fly as high as the sun / I wanna know what the rent's like in heaven / I wanna know where the river goes," sings songwriter and late great lead singer Scott Weiland, who passed away in 2015. "Where the River Goes" closed out Stone Temple Pilots' best-selling album and Atlantic Records debut Core (1992), which they recorded with producer Brendan O’Brien and which yielded six singles, including MTV staples “Plush” and “Creep."
