“You Are the Sunshine of My Life” is a song recorded by Stevie Wonder for 1972’s Talking Book album. Wonder’s inspiration for the song was his wife Syreeta Wright whom he married in 1970. Wright had been a secretary at Motown Records who went on to co-write his hit “Signed, Sealed, Delivered I’m Yours”. Wonder later produced several albums for her as a recording artist. The marriage didn’t last but the song has remained as one of Wonder’s most popular songs. One unusual thing about the song is that Wonder’s voice is the third voice you hear. Jim Gilstrap sings the first two lines followed by female vocalist Lani Groves. Both were backup singers in his band.
