Helmed by Steve Miller on guitar and vocals, California's Steve Miller Band formed in 1966 and scored a stack of hit singles in the '70s including 1973's "The Joker" and "Take the Money and Run," but their 1976 album Fly like an Eagle is up there among the band's defining works, flying high as a solid beacon of classic rock. Although not released as a single (the LP yielded three singles in the title track, "Take the Money and Run" and "Rock'n Me,"), "Dance Dance Dance" is one of the more standout tracks on the LP, notably for its country music shuffle and humorous lyrics that celebrate the frivolity of life ("My grandpa, he's 95 / And he keeps on dancing / He's still alive / My grandma, she's 92 /She loves to dance / And sing some, too / I don't know / But I've been told / If you keep on dancing / You'll never grow old"), recalling the offbeat lyricism of Jonathan Richman.
