"Candy Rain" is the title and opening track of Soul for Real's new jack swing-tinged R&B debut, released in 1995, and combines a sample of Minnie Riperton’s 1975 tune “Baby, This Love I Have” with production from rapper Heavy D, who also makes a cameo in the track's music video. The song was written by the team of Ali Shaheed Muhammad, Hamish Stuart, Dwight Myers, Malik Taylor, Owen McIntyre, Samuel Barnes, Jean-Claude Olivier, and Terri Robinson, and shot to the top of the Billboard R&B charts in 1994. However, "Candy Rain”—which sees the song's protagonist compare his love to the titular sweet stuff ("My love, do you ever dream of / Candy coated raindrops? / You're the same, my candy rain")—also achieved crossover appeal, hitting number two on the Billboard Pop charts. The group's 1995 LP Candy Rain went to number 23 on the Billboard 200 chart and was later certified platinum by the RIAA.
