"Kiss Me" is a song by American pop-rock band Sixpence None the Richer. The track was released in 1998 as a single from their self-titled third album. It was written by the band's guitarist Matt Slocum. This lighthearted tune was a departure from the band's previous work, with early drafts featuring edgier lyrics before evolving into the version beloved worldwide. Featuring a jangly guitar pop sound and romantic lyrics about discovering young love, "Kiss Me" displays a blend of innocence and longing that transcends its era. The band was reluctant to include it on their album until persuaded by their producer Steve Taylor. The song then soared to success, peaking at the number 2 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 and became a defining track of 1999. Internationally, "Kiss Me" achieved number 1 in Australia and Canada. Over the years it's been covered by artists such as Avril Lavigne and New Found Glory, and was referred to by Taylor Swift as the first song she ever learned to play on guitar.
