You don't need to revisit the '70s to dredge up some decent hard rock; the genre has remained very much alive and kicking well into the 21st century and shows no signs of slowing down. One of the contemporary scene's finest – and loudest – purveyors of supercharged hard rawk riffage are Shinedown, who formed in Jacksonville, Florida in 2001 and can claim the most Number one Billboard Mainstream Rock singles out of any band. “Sound of Madness” is the title track of the band's 2008 album – which was produced by multiple Grammy Award winner Rob Cavallo (Kid Rock, Green Day, My Chemical Romance) – and launches a hard-edged attack on manipulative fakers. "You think that by cryin' to me / Lookin' so sorry that I'm gonna believe / You've been infected by a social disease / Well, then take your medicine," roars frontman Brent Smith on the song's pre-chorus, with the band earning another Mainstream Rock chart Number one for "Sound of Madness."
