American rock band Shinedown released their fourth studio album Amaryllis in 2012. Recorded by legendary producer (and then-chairman of Warner Bros. Records) Rob Cavallo, the album was a more polished take on the group’s hard rock sound. This is evident in the track “I’ll Follow You,” one of the highlights of the album and the fourth promotional single to be released from it. An emotional power ballad featuring an impassioned performance by singer Brent Smith, a soaring solo from guitarist Zach Meyers, and a bed of strings that heighten the song’s sense of drama, “I’ll Follow You” is a declaration of absolute devotion for a romantic partner. The song was co-written by Brent Smith, bassist Eric Bass, and songwriter Dave Bassett. It was released as a single on February 5, 2013, and peaked at Number 2 on the Billboard US Mainstream Rock chart, as well as Number 25 on the US Hot Rock & Alternative Songs.
