One of the most covered songs in the history of popular music, "Fever" was written by Eddie Cooley and Otis Blackwell (under the pseudonym John Davenport) in 1956. The first known recording of the song belongs to American R&B singer Little Willie John who, despite not liking it at first, included it in his studio debut Fever later that year. In 1958, "Fever" was further popularized by singer Peggy Lee, albeit with changed lyrics and a different arrangement. Over the course of the next few years, the track received the cover treatment by numerous popular artists, including Elvis Presley, The Kingsmen, Helen Shapiro, and jazz singer Sarah Vaughan. Featured in her 1965 album ¡Viva! Vaughan, The Divine One's smoky take on the song is backed up by a smooth instrumental blend of jazz, easy listening, and bossa nova, courtesy of legendary producer Quincy Jones. More recently, the early rhythm and blues classic was brought into the 21st century by contemporary artists such as Beyoncé and Michael Bublé.
