Sammy Hagar cut his teeth with hard-rocking Californians Montrose in the mid-'70s before finding his voice with Van Halen in 1985. Parallel to this, he forged a highly successful career as a solo singer-songwriter in his own right, beginning with his 1976 debut LP Nine on a Ten Scale and honing his voice across a string of albums in the '70s and '80s.
