"Thank God and Greyhound" is a song popularized by American country artist Roy Clark, who included it in his twelfth album, I Never Picked Cotton. It was written by Larry Kingston and John Edward Nix and was released as the album's second single in September 1970. The song plays at a slow tempo during the first part, capturing the narrator's anguish for a highly troubled relationship with a woman that spent the little money he had and humiliated him during the process. As she announces she's leaving, the instrumental track is brought to a halt and then starts over again with a faster tempo and a brighter mood, reflecting the man's happiness over the end of the relationship. Shortly after its commercial release, "Thank God and Greyhound" reached Number 6 on the US Billboard Hot Country Singles chart and Number 90 on the US Billboard Hot 100. It also entered the charts in Canada, where it peaked at Number 2. I Never Picked Cotton, its parent album, went to Number 8 on the US country charts.
