"My Toot Toot" is the quintessence of zydeco; a genre that was developed in southwest Louisiana by French Creole speakers and mixes together R&B, blues, accordion music, Afro-Caribbean beats and other music indigenous to the Louisiana Creoles and the Native American people of Louisiana. Known popularly as "Don't Mess with My Toot Toot," "(Don't Mess with) My Toot Toot," or here, "My Toot-Toot," the song was penned by Sidney Simien who brought it to life under his stage name Rockin' Sidney. He released it on the Maison de Soul Records label in Ville Platte, Louisiana in October 1984 and added the track to his third album, My Zydeco Shoes Got the Zydeco Blues, for which he notably played all the instruments himself. Aside from its near-mythological status as a Louisianan folkloric heirloom, the 1985 single "My Toot-Toot" made it into the top 20 of the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts and earned Rockin' Sidney a Grammy Award.
