Redbone was formed in 1969 by Native American brothers Pat and Lolly Vegas, who had previously worked under their own names, and all band members during their commercial heyday were either of Mexican American and Native American heritage. The pioneering group drew on their background in their songs and aesthetic, blending it with a funk-rock sound that proved their winning formula. They first rose to prominence for their third 1970 single "Maggie," which was released on Epic and went to number 45. They gathered even more steam for "The Witch Queen of New Orleans" – which charted at number 21 the following year – but hit the big time with the platinum-selling 1973 "Come and Get Your Love," scoring a Billboard number five with the pop radio earworm. In 2008, Redbone entered the Native American Music Awards Hall of Fame. Six years later, "Come and Get Your Love" entered the musical vernacular of a new generation when it was featured in the superhero film Guardians of the Galaxy.
