Texan country star Ray Price is one of the biggest voices to take up residence in the American country pantheon, a former veterinary medicine student-turned-hitmaker who even courted his own popular beat; the so-called 4/4 "Ray Price beat." After performing services to honky tonk during the 1950s, he moved his attention to the au courant Nashville sound in the 1960s, preferring strings-laden ballads and backing singers to the upbeat tempos and rough-hewn traditions of the former. Reaching number two in 1965, "The Other Woman" connects with the aforementioned pop-friendly Nashville sound while keeping one foot in the honky-tonky past, showcasing his famous shuffle. The song formed the title track of Ray Price's 1965 album; the follow-up to his 1965 offering Western Strings and the chart-topping Night Life album, which sealed his pop fate in 1963. The Other Woman rose to number three on Billboard's country chart.
