"Imagine" is a song by English musician and former Beatle John Lennon, originally included in the 1971 album of the same name. With lyrics inspired by several poems from Yoko Ono's 1964 book Grapefruit, "Imagine" is a plaintive anti-war song and perhaps John Lennon's biggest contribution to the peace movement throughout the world. He began writing "Imagine" during the Let It Be sessions and finished it on a Steinway piano in one brief writing session in 1971. Decades after its release, the track received was extensively covered by many pop heavyweights such as Madonna, Stevie Wonder, Elton John, and Diana Ross. One of the most powerful renditions of the song, though, was recorded by American legendary musician Ray Charles, who offered a slow-burning R&B take on the song, featuring lush string arrangements and a gospel choir. Ray Charles' version of "Imagine" was included in his 1994 album Imagine.
