Unrequited love has provided the spark of inspiration to some of the greatest love songs in music history. Patsy Cline’s 1961 single "I Fall to Pieces" is definitely one of them. Penned by the songwriting duo of Hank Cochran and Harlan Howard, the track was first rejected by a number of artists, including Brenda Lee and Roy Drusky. Patsy Cline herself wasn’t much of a fan on first impression, stating that she thought the song "lacked energy" and expressing skepticism about the arrangement. However, during the recording session, she was able to find the song’s identity and fully inhabit its lovelorn lyrics. The end result is a sublime torch song about longing and heartbreak. Though the track was initially ignored by radio stations, it saw a slow but steady rise in prominence, eventually becoming one of the biggest hits of the year and one of Patsy Cline’s signature songs.

There is some strange reverb on the acoustic guitar and the piano is a little too much in the forefront of the mix.
