A snaking, surf-indebted guitar line sits at the heart of Patsy Cline's 1964 rendition of Bill Monroe's 1945 track "Blue Moon of Kentucky", summoning a faster-paced country meets rock 'n' spirit on a song originally conceived as a strings-laden bluegrass waltz. Pouring her contralto croon into the beloved tune, Patsy Cline recorded “Blue Moon of Kentucky” in 1963 and updated the track with a different arrangement two decades later. That version was then featured on the soundtrack for the 1985 biographical film,Sweet Dreams, which sees Jessica Lange play Patsy Cline in a story about the late country star's life and for which Jessica Lange received a Best Actress nomination at the Academy Awards. "Blue Moon of Kentucky" went on to be covered by the likes of Elvis Presley, The Stanley Brothers, John Fogerty, Al Kooper, and Paul McCartney, and the song was used in a scene of the 2005 TV miniseries Elvis.
