Written in the midst of pandemic lockdown, the song describes the feeling of depression and powerlessness that Orville Peck went through during that period in his life. “Let Me Drown” was written entirely by Orville Peck. He described how the melody came to him in a dream, prompting him to capture it quickly with his microphone before it fully faded from memory. Like the rest of Bronco, the song was produced by Jay Joyce. Critics pointed out “Let Me Drown” as an album highlight, remarking on how Orville Peck sang more theatrically than on his debut release. As an album, Bronco was longlisted for the 2022 Polaris Music Prize.
