"Counting Stars" is a song from American pop rock band OneRepublic's 2013 album, Native. Written by lead vocalist Ryan Tedder and co-produced with Noel Zancanella, it hit the airwaves on June 14, 2013, as the album's second single. Born out of Tedder's creative session in the Hamptons during a summer stay with music royalty Jay-Z and Beyoncé, the song was inspired by a native folk tune that the singer revamped into an absolute pop juggernaut.
