American grunge band Nirvana became famous after their 1991 sophomore album Nevermind. However, they were already picking up steam in the Seattle underground thanks to the release of their 1989 debut album Bleach. Said debut album includes songs such as “Negative Creep,” the seventh song on the album and one of the group’s early fan favorites. “Negative Creep” was written by Kurt Cobain and produced by Jack Endino, and it features the band at their heaviest and most aggressive. While the song’s lyrics express an unrelenting negativity, the song can also be viewed as a humorous pastiche of the late 1980s Seattle scene. While not released as a single, “Negative Creep” became one of the group’s most celebrated songs; it was ranked at Number 15 on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of 102 Nirvana songs. “Negative Creep” was also covered by other artists, such as the band Machine Head, punk rock bassist Dee Dee Ramone, and supergroup Velvet Revolver.
