"The bass, the rock, the mic, the treble / I like my coffee black just like my metal," begins Jimmy Urine, frontman of electropunk upstarts Mindless Self Indulgence. The group, who formed in New York in 1997, released their debut album Tight in 1999 and the follow-up, Frankenstein Girls Will Seem Strangely Sexy, in 2000. "Shut Me Up" is one of the group's biggest hits, included on their third studio album You'll Rebel to Anything (2005) and accompanied by a mesmerising video by Jhonen Vasquez. "Shut Me Up" cracked the top ten of the Billboard Hot Singles Sales chart as well as going to number one on the Hot Dance Singles Sales chart. The album, meanwhile, became their first to chart at all on Billboard and featured a cover of "Tom Sawyer" by Canadian prog rockers Rush. In August 2021, a lawsuit for sexual battery was filed against Jimmy Urine, real name James Euringer, by a woman who alleges he assaulted her when she was 15 for two years.
