The Blues Don’t Care Who’s Got ‘Em is a blues-influenced country song made famous by Mickey Gilley. It was released as part of his 1980 album That’s All That Matters to Me, as well as the B-side to the album’s first single (and partial title track) That’s All That Matters.” At the time, Mickey Gilley was having a career renaissance after his music was heavily featured in the James Bridges directed hit film Urban Cowboy (1980). This carried over to his new music, which saw an uptick in popularity. The Blues Don’t Care Who’s Got ‘Em was written by Wayland Holyfriend and Dickey Lee, and it serves as the opening track for the LP. Stylistically speaking, the song falls within the genre of traditional country, with lovelorn lyrics about pain, melancholy, and heartache. It was produced by Jim Ed Norman. Shortly after its release in September 1980, That’s All That Matters peaked at Number 1 on the US Hot Country Songs chart.
