After getting his feet firmly under the table with a signing to RCA Victor in 1962, endorsed by Nashville sound progenitor Chet Atkins, Bobby Bare spent the next decade picking up Grammy Awards, recording duet albums with Skeeter Davis, and generally just being an eclectic country music legend. With contributors from Shel Silverstein and Billy Joe Shaver—the song's original scribe—"Ride Me Down Easy" marked his return to RCA following two years at Mercury and was featured as the closing track on his 1973 LP Hate Goodbyes/Ride Me Down Easy. "Ride Me Down Easy" was also covered by the likes of Waylon Jennings for his Honky Tonky Heroes LP and decades later by Yellowstone star Ryan Bingham for the Live Forever: A Tribute to Billy Joe Shaver (who died in October 2020) album in 2022, but Bobby Bare really made it his own, aided by a haunting vocal accompaniment from US vocal quartet The Jordanaires.
