After getting their first taste of fame on the eleventh season of the Italian talent show X Factor in 2017, Italian glam rockers Måneskin rose to international stardom by winning the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Zitti e Buoni." The group's victory in Rotterdam singlehandedly launched their career, resulting in two chart-topping studio albums and several sold-out dates throughout the world. In 2022, Måneskin began teasing their third album Rush! with the single "The Loneliest," a melancholic break-up anthem that was first heard during one of the band's shows at London's The Underworld. The slow-burning power ballad was written by all four members of the band with James Abrahart, Jason Evigan, Rami Yacoub, and Sarah Hudson. In "The Loneliest," the end of a romantic relationship makes lead singer Damiano David reflect on his own mortality—a concept further explored in the song's funeral-themed video. "The Loneliest" reached Number 1 on the Italian singles chart and was certified Gold for sales of over 50,000 copies.
