A year later, Louis Armstrong recorded the definitive version of the tune that became a jazz standard, but many others have put their stamp on it over the years. Written by Mark Fisher, Larry Shay and Joe Goodwin, the buoyant lyrics of "When You're Smiling (The Whole World Smiles with You)'" don't veer far from the title while the song's instrumental makeup is just as cheerful. In 1957, New Orleans-born trumpeter-vocalist Louis Prima sprinkled some of his famous charisma over the track for this sprightly medley spliced with another classic 1920s jazz standard, "The Sheik of Araby," featuring tenor saxophonist Sam Butera. Both songs were contained on Louis Prima's The Call of the Wildest LP, released in 1957.
