Illinois heroes Local H wrote and released "Bound for the Floor" when they were just a duo, downsizing from their original trio in the early '90s after first forming in high school. Having signed a record contract with Island Records in 1994, they unleashed their debut album during grunge's peak, Ham Fisted, (1995), but it wasn't until their following full-length, As Good As Dead, (1996) that they were able to reap any notable commercial success. They scored a bona fide radio hit with "Bound for the Floor," a thrashy maelstrom of college rock, first-wave midwestern emo, and post-grunge infused with more than a whiff of Sonic Youth's edge. There's angst, rebellion, and distortion aplenty; the key ingredients to any '90s indie-rock classic. Ultimately, "Bound for the Floor" put Local H on the map, reaching number on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart and number ten on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, and remains the band's signature tune.
