"Easy" was originally recorded by the Commodores for the Motown label and was featured on their fifth studio album, Commodores, with the track spending two weeks at Number 1 on the US Billboard Hot Soul Singles chart (now known as the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart) and peaking at Number 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1976. The hit song was re-recorded for Lionel Richie's 2012 chart-topping album Tuskegee – named after the Alabama city in which Richie was born and later completed his undergraduate degree at Tuskegee Institute and featuring reimaginings of a selection of Lionel Richie favorites by country artists – with the addition of country star Willie Nelson, who pours his voice over the rocks of a solo verse before the pair join forces.
