The unlikely pairing of Lionel Richie and Blake Shelton put their heads together to rework the former's 1983 gem "You Are." Originally written by Lionel Richie and his then-wife, Brenda Harvey Richie, the track is featured on his self-titled debut solo album of 1982 and assumes a late-night romantic air, before breaking out into a jubilant funk-rich number. Lionel Richie reimagined "You Are" as a duet with country star Blake Shelton for his 2012 Tuskegee album. On the 2012 country music-flavored version, Blake Shelton opens the song and Lionel Richie steps in for the next verse. The duo then join up for the hands-in-the-air chorus. "You are the sun / You are the rain / That makes my life this foolish game / You need to know / I love you so / And I'd do it all again and again / Whoa, whoa, whoa," they sing, their voices perfectly complementing each other.
