Back in 2009, country music trio Lady A (formerly Lady Antebellum) had a lot to prove. Their debut self-titled album had done extremely well, scoring a Number 1 hit on the Hot Country Songs chart with “I Run to You.” A big statement needed to follow it, one that assured the audience that the band wasn’t going to fade into obscurity after a single successful album. “Need You Now,” the title track to the band’s follow-up album, was that statement. Co-written by the band and musician Josh Kear, and produced by Paul Worley, the single was a massive hit for the trio. It spent five weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart before crossing over onto pop radio and becoming an international hit in countries like Canada, Ireland, and New Zealand. At the 2011 Grammy Awards, the song was awarded four Grammys for Song of the Year, Record of the Year, Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals, and Best Country Song.
