In 1973, drummer Phil Ehart, bassist Dave Hope, songwriter/guitarist Kerry Livgren, vocalist/strings Robby Steinhardt, vocalist/synthesist Steve Walsh, and guitarist Richard Williams assembled in Topeka to set the Kansas wheels in motion. They quickly went from local heroes to US Billboard chart regulars bolstered by a stadium-sized following, notching up hits like "Carry On Wayward Son," which served as the incandescent opener and centrepiece of their seminal album Leftoverture (1976). However, for many Kansas fans, "Miracles Out of Nowhere" exists as the ultimate expression of the Kansas MO, triumphantly closing out the first side of Leftoverture.
