Acclaimed Vermont folk-pop singer-songwriter Noah Kahan developed a fanbase on SoundCloud and YouTube before going on to score a significant record deal with Republic Records and making waves with his breakthrough, gold-certified single "Hurt Somebody" in 2017. Following the release of his debut full-length Busyhead in 2019 and the 2021 successor, I Was / I Am, Noah Kahan picked up a Grammy nomination in 2024 for Best New Artist, driven by the success of his talked-about third studio album, 2022's Stick Season. "She Calls Me Back" is among the tracks contained on Stick Season, but was restyled as a duet with Kacey Musgraves—and announced on social media as a voicemail recording—that cracked the US Billboard Hot 100 at the time of its release in October 2023. Here, Kacey Musgraves adds a tear-streaked new verse to this end-of-a-relationship meditation, lamentably admitting: "You love me and I don't know why."
