Strangely enough, Judas Priest recorded their 1984 classic album Defenders of the Faith in Ibiza, but there's little to no evidence of the island's balearic house or clubbing legacy embedded in the band's brutal document of speed metal. To their fans, they were the defenders of metal and to the parents, public enemy number one, particularly among the members of the Parents Music Resource Center (PMRC) who shoved album track "Eat Me Alive" onto their 'Filthy Fifteen' list of objectionable songs. "The Sentinel" may not have caused quite the same moral furore but is still a ferocious force of nature, a progressive metal ripper that combines earth-shattering hooks with glass-shattering vocals to portray a post-apocalyptic landscape of "deserted avenues" and "upturned burned-out cars" where "the challengers await / And in their fists clutch iron bars" and "the knives fly out like bullets upon their deadly course."
