The somber rockabilly classic "Home of the Blues" was recorded by American country music artist Johnny Cash in 1957. Written by Johnny Cash with Lillie McAlpin and Gleen Doulgas Tubb, this fairly autobiographical song drew inspiration from the Man in Black's troubled childhood in Arkansas. Coming on the heels of his 1956 chart-topping country single "I Walk the Line," "Home of the Blues" was officially released in August 1957 and peaked at Number 3 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Singles. It was also a moderate success in the pop charts, reaching Number 88 on the Billboard Hot 100. Only a year later, the track made its way to Johnny Cash's last outing for Sun Records, the 1958 compilation Sings the Songs That Made Him Famous. Over the next few decades, the track was covered multiple times by artists like Dwight Yoakam, Laughing Hyenas, and Owl City. In 2005, actor Joaquin Phoenix recorded the song for the Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line.
