"Fortunate Son" is a song by the American rock band Creedence Clearwater Revival, included in their fourth studio album Willy and the Poor Boys (1969). Written by frontman John Fogerty, it is a poignant social commentary on the Vietnam War and the unfairness of the draft process, better known as the Selective Service System. Since its official release in October 1969, this classic rock track has become a sort of anti-war anthem and has been extensively used to protest military actions and elitism in the Western World. "Fortunate Son" spent 15 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 and peaked at Number 3, achieving triple-platinum certification by the RIAA. It has also been featured in several feature films, TV series, and commercials. In 2013, John Fogerty recorded a new version with the Foo Fighters as his backing band for his ninth solo album Wrote a Song for Everyone, which climbed to Number 3 on the Billboard 200.
