There's arguably no one in music like quite Jimmy Buffett. Beginning his career in the mid-'60s, he built an easygoing empire across a prolific stream of albums – pretty much basing his whole career around being an islander and his love of the leisurely life - while also securing other ventures along the way, including two restaurant chains named after his best-known songs. He is one of the world's richest musicians, and, strangely enough, also a bestselling children's author. One of the flagship songs on his fourteenth studio album Last Mango in Paris (1985) is the steelpan-inflected tropical folk tune "Jolly Mon Sing," which brings one of his own children's characters off the page and into a song. The Jolly Mon is a children's picture book written by Jimmy Buffett and his daughter Savannah Jane Buffett, which was illustrated by Lambert Davis and released in 1988.
