Jim Reeves pours his calming voice into earnest song “This World is Not My Home," a popular Christian hymn, which Nashville Sound trailblazer and "Gentleman Jim," recorded in June 1962, just two years before his death from a plane crash. His version was included on his gospel album We Thank Thee, which arrived after his 1962 studio album A Touch of Velvet and its number two country hit,"Welcome to My World." Following his death, the song took on a new meaning. "This world is not my home / I'm just a-passing through / My treasures are laid up / Somewhere beyond the blue / The angels beckon me / From heaven's open door / And I can't feel at home / In this world anymore," he sings in the opening verse. Jim Reeves made an indelible mark on the country music scene during his nearly 20-year career and was posthumously inducted into both the Country Music and Texas Country Music Halls of Fame in 1967 and 1998, respectively.
