"Hey tomorrow, where are you goin'? / Do you have some room for me?" asks late Philadelphia folkie Jim Croce in this wistful track recorded a year before his death from a plane crash. "Hey Tomorrow" was among the tracks featured on Jim Croce's third studio album You Don't Mess Around, which was issued by ABC Records in April 1972 and shot to the top of the charts in 1974 following Jim Croce's death on 20th September 1973. The success of the LP—which hung around in the charts for an impressive 93 weeks—was largely due to the popularity of the posthumous chart-topping single release "Time in a Bottle." However, Jim Croce actually wrote "Hey Tomorrow" in 1968 at a high point in his career and life, when he had just signed a production deal with Terry Cashman and Tommy West and moved to New York City with his wife Ingrid Croce. That the song was built from such optimistic fibres makes it feel all the more tragic.
