According to Jelly Roll, he was inspired to write "She" after witnessing the devastating effects of the heroin and fentanyl epidemic on the working-class population throughout the country. The song came on the heels of Jelly Roll's country debut single "Son of a Sinner," which reached the top of the US Country Airplay chart and was certified Gold shortly after. "She" was first teased via the singer-songwriter's TikTok account and had its commercial release on November 30, 2022. Even though it failed to enter the country charts in the United States, it did manage to peak at Number 26 on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart.
