Jamey Johnson unleashed his major-label debut The Dollar in 2006 and two more full-lengths – including his 2010 Grammy-nominated, gold-selling Guitar Song – before looking to the oeuvre of Hank Cochran for a critically acclaimed tribute album in 2012. Living for a Song: A Tribute to Hank Cochran celebrates the Mississippi-born Country Music Hall of Fame inductee on a 16-track collection that spans some of his most treasured songs, helped along by a top-tier cast of traditional country and modern bluegrass and pop legends, including Alison Krauss, Emmylou Harris, Elvis Costello, Willie Nelson, and George Strait. He rallied the distinctive voice of Merle Haggard for Hank Cochran's '60s country-pop heartbreaker "I Fall to Pieces," originally immortalised by Patsy Cline in 1961 (her first number-one hit) and suffused with the same tender misery as her original while embracing a bluesier sentiment. In seeking to do the late Hank Cochran justice, Jamey Johnson earned another Grammy nomination – for Best Country Album in 2013.
