James Taylor's heartwarming voice is guaranteed to thaw even the iciest of souls and this '70s folk gem captures his warming timbre in all its melodic glory. After kicking his career into gear in the mid-'60s, the six-time Grammy Award winner and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee scored his breakthrough with the 1970 single "Fire and Rain", a heartbreaking tribute to his childhood friend Suzanne Schnerr – who died from suicide just days before he penned the song – while also doubling up as a frank exploration of his experiences with drug addiction and fame. Through "Fire and Rain", James Taylor teaches us to appreciate life and not take anything for granted, with the track coming to its climax via the lighters-in-the-air chorus; "I've seen fire and I've seen rain / I've seen sunny days that I thought would never end / I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend / But I always thought that I'd see you again".
