"Stranger in a Strange Land" is a song by Iron Maiden from their sixth studio album, Somewhere in Time. The song shares the title with Robert Heinlein's 1961 novel, but that's where the similarity ends. Written by band guitarist Adrian Smith, the song is about an arctic explorer who dies and is frozen in ice. His preserved body was discovered by explorers 100 years later. "Stranger in a strange land / Land of ice and snow / Trapped into this prison, yea / Lost and far from home. " Smith described "Stranger in a Strange Land" as one of the first Iron Maiden songs that gave him the room to really stretch out for his guitar solo, due to its slower tempo. The talented guitarist also wrote "Wasted Years" from the album.
