"As It Was" is a song by English singer Harry Styles. The pulsating synth-pop track was the lead single from the artist's genre-defying third album, Harry's House. Styles spoke of the transformative changes that came with the Covid lockdown, telling Apple Music's Zane Lowe that he'd previously been terrified of what his life would be without success in music. The forced break gave him a chance to reflect on his life. "Suddenly, you’re forced to not be this musician guy, you’re forced to be a friend and a brother and a son, and all of those things.” Those personal transitions are reflected in the lyrics of "As It Was." Sung over the song's infectious dance beat, Styles describes the sad unraveling of a relationship. The song flew straight to the #1 position on Billboard's Hot 100.
