Like many aspiring artists hoping to make a living out of country music, singer-songwriter Michael Wilson Hardy (best known by his all-caps nom de plume, HARDY) moved to Nashville right after graduating high school. After penning his first couple of hits for the country-pop duo Florida Georgia Line, Hardy quickly became one of the most sought-after songwriters in the industry, collaborating with the likes of Morgan Wallen, Blake Shelton, and Thomas Rett, among others. In 2023, the Mississippi native released his second studio album, The Mockingbird & the Crow, a high-octane blend of country music and alternative rock that shot straight to Number 1 on the US Top Country Albums chart upon its release. Apart from the promotional singles "Wait in the Truck" and "Jack," the album also featured the track "Here Lies Country Music," a straightforward country number driven forward by copious amounts of slide guitar and Hardy's twangy vocal delivery.
