Hamilton mastermind Lin-Manuel Miranda launched his Hamildrops project in December 2017, dutifully releasing one new track during every month of 2018 (except July) as the sequel to 2016's blockbuster Hamilton Mixtape; a collection of songs from the eponymous hit 2015 Broadway musical. The first track, "Ben Franklin's Song," was released in December 2017 and “First Burn” served as April's pick. The song is told from Eliza Schuyler's perspective and captures her reaction to her husband's affair in the Reynolds Pamphlet. "First Burn" was performed by five actors who have all assumed the role of Hamilton's Elizabeth Hamilton (wife of Alexander) on stage – Lexi Lawson, Julia K. Harriman, Shoba Narayan, Ari Afsar and Rachelle Ann Go – with each actor adding their voice to the track, which was arranged the Grammy-winning Cuban-American composer Alex Lacamoire and produced by Mike Elizondo.
