One of the most popular power ballads of the 1990s, "Iris" was written by American rock band Goo Goo Dolls for the soundtrack of the romantic fantasy film City of Angels. By the late 1990s, the group already had a few hits under their belt and made guest appearances on popular TV dramas such as Beverly Hills, 90210 and Charmed. This sudden boost in popularity was largely thanks to their chart-topping 1995 single "Name," which helped break them into the mainstream rock scene in the United States.
