Theatrical, costume-wearing Swedish outfit Ghost draw from the world of horror and the occult to concoct their own devilish brand of hard rock that has earned them a legion of fans, a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance in 2016, and countless other accolades. Following the release of 2018's medieval-themed fourth album Prequelle – which was nominated for the Best Rock Album Grammy Award at the 61st annual awards ceremony and the Swedish Grammis Award in the category of Hard rock/metal – the band shared a string of singles that included 2019's '80-sounding, glam-bathed pop tune "Mary on a Cross," (released as the A-side on the "Seven Inches of Satantic Panic" single). The song sees them bring to life the fictional characters of Papa Nihil and Sister Imperator to scandalously imagine an alternate reality where the Virgin Mary isn't quite as saintly and virginal as her namsake.
