Swedish doom metallers Ghost took home a Grammy for their devilishly good, Metallica-channelling single “Cirice”, which takes its title from the Old English for “Church", its artwork from horror classic Silence of the Lambs, and carries a religious and satanic theme across over four toughened minutes of melodic metal. Filtering the song's narrative through the lens of a pastor called Papa Emeritus III, "Cirice" depicts a conversation between the papa and a sinner who's been marked by the devil. "I can feel the thunder that's breaking in your heart / I can see through the scars inside you / I can feel the thunder that's breaking in your heart / I can see through the scars inside you", cautions the pastor. Featured on the band's Meliora (2016) album, "Cirice" went to Number 4 on the Mainstream Rock Songs chart, won the Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance in 2016 and is also featured in the videogame Rock Band VR.
