In 1990, Northern Irish guitarist Gary Moore was itching to try something new. After a long career of performing in a rock and hard rock style, he decided to go a different direction and record an entire album of electric blues. The title track, “Still Got the Blues (For You),” is a perfect encapsulation of what he attempted through the course of the entire album; an original song (written by Gary Moore himself) that attempts to replicate and pay homage to a style that was deeply influential on his own development as a musician. The song was produced by Gary Moore along with frequent collaborator Ian Taylor, and was released as a single for the album of the same name. “Still Got the Blues (For You)” was a huge success for Gary Moore, becoming the only single of his solo career to chart on the Billboard Hot 100, where it peaked at Number 97. The song was later covered by Eric Clapton in 2013 as a tribute to Moore after his passing in 2011.
