"One Nation Under a Groove" is a song recorded by the funk band Funkadelic. Bandleader George Clinton explained that he was shooting a film in front of the United Nations headquarters. They were lowering the Mothership prop, the space-age vehicle owned by Clinton's alter ego, Dr. Funkenstein. A UN employee was raising a flag and someone mentioned "One nation under a groove." Clinton tucked the title away for two years before recording the song in 1979. "One Nation Under a Groove" was the band's first million-seller. The song is included in Rolling Stone magazine's list of 500 Greatest Songs of All Time and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll.
