The song "Come On (Let the Good Times Roll)" was originally written by New Orleans rhythm and blues artist Earl King in 1960. He first recorded it under the name "Darling Honey Angel Child" but decided to retitle it "Come On" after changing the lyrics. For its Imperial Records release, Earl King turned the track into a two-part song: "Come On – Part I" and the B-side "Come On – Part II." With lyrics that reference the 1946 jump blues hit "Let the Good Times Roll" by Louis Jordan and his Tympany Five, the song focuses heavily on instrumentation, something that appealed to numerous blues musicians in the years to come.
